Streamlining complex production processes in an engineering company or improving a product for vibration and noise damping. Both of these examples are among the results based on the use of digital technologies and the know-how of experts from the European Digital Innovation Hub Ostrava (EDIH Ostrava) project. This project has already completed eighteen months of implementation and is thus successfully entering its second half.
More than 250 clients have already been served during this period. Companies mostly use the opportunity to participate in training courses, such as the 3D modelling course or the course Using Power BI in the corporate environment. Almost fifty small and medium-sized companies had their strengths and weaknesses analysed by EDIH Ostrava experts through the Digi-scan service, a process map of the company or the definition of key change projects. In a number of cases, this resulted in the design or optimization of the information system used by the company.
We perceive the potential of the digital scan and other related services in their applicability for any smaller company or organization that wants to take the first or next step in its development through digitalization,” summarizes Adéla Hradilová, chairwoman of the board of directors of the Moravian-Silesian Innovation Centre Ostrava, which is a partner in the project.
In addition, a total of seventeen companies have decided to use the highly specialised services of Test Before Invest. EDIH Ostrava is connected to the IT4Innovations national supercomputer centre and the Smart Factory of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics of VŠB-TUO. Companies can thus use supercomputer technology or the so-called industrial testbed built on the principles of Industry 4.0. Thanks to this expertise and technology, companies could test their intentions, such as optimizing the production process or improving the quality of their product, before the actual investment is made.
We are pleased that many of our clients who have used this service are from the traditional industry sector. This makes us optimistic that digitalisation, including its more sophisticated tools, is perceived as a necessary tool for ensuring corporate competitiveness by virtually the entire industrial sector,” says Martin Duda, project manager from the VŠB-Technical University Ostrava, which coordinates the EDIH Ostrava project.
For example, the supercomputer or expertise associated with numerical modelling or artificial intelligence has been used by companies operating in glass production, mechanical engineering, aerospace or light microscope production.
Thanks to a subsidy from the European Union and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, the services are offered at a significant discount. In the case of large-scale services, the discount is 85% of the market price; small-scale services are offered free of charge.
An overview of all services, including the offer of training courses or examples of successful cases, can be found on the project website www.edihostrava.cz.
