PRESS RELEASE, Ostrava 24 October 2025
The team of students of VŠB – Technical University Ostrava Formula TU Ostrava publicly presented their latest racing monopod VECTOR 10 and the results of the 2025 season. The new car brought the team a historical record – the highest number of points scored in Formula Student races.
The new VECTOR 10 has brought major technical improvements over the previous VECTOR 09 model. The main innovations include a weight reduction from 235kg to 215kg and a new chassis that sees a switch from a push-rod system to a pull-rod system, which moves the shock absorbers to the bottom of the frame. The new model also has an improved aero package with more downforce and aerodynamic efficiency, a new engine control unit and an electronic throttle. The car can reach speeds of up to 130 km/h.
“The VECTOR 10 is the result of intensive work by 20 bachelor and master students from all faculties of VŠB – Technical University Ostrava, who make up the Formula TU Ostrava team. Our results this year confirm that our cooperation is working, thanks to our partners who support us,” said captain Václav Hanek, a student of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at VŠB-TUO.
Formula TU Ostrava is a university racing team that has been regularly participating in the prestigious international Formula Student competition since 2014. More than 800 university teams from all over the world compete in this competition in the categories of cars with combustion, electric and autonomous drive.
“We are proud of our students and they have our support and appreciation. This is one of our most successful projects, combining theory and practice. The students not only design the cars and individual parts, but also manufacture and test them, and at the same time they have to communicate and cooperate with companies,” added Robert Čep, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at VŠB-TUO.
In 2025, the Ostrava student team participated in two key races, which are among the most important races in the combustion and hybrid category. The team kicked off the season in July in Austria at the prestigious Formula Student Austria race at the Red Bull Ring, where the world’s top university teams compete. The team managed to win the Cost and Manufacturing discipline and take 7th place overall.
On home soil, the team excelled in August at the Formula Student Czech race, the third largest in Europe. There, they achieved their best ever result with five podium finishes and took 3rd place overall with 768 points out of 1000, beating the team’s previous record by 125 points. He also beat experienced teams from the universities of Budapest (Hungary) and Tampere (Finland) in the competition.
