Professor Radek Martinek is the Vice Dean for Science and Research and Deputy Head of the Department of Cybernetics and Biomedical Engineering at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics, VŠB – Technical University Ostrava.

He is the author of more than 350 scientific publications and has been regularly included in the prestigious list of the World’s Top 2% Scientists compiled by Stanford University since 2020.

Research, activities and impacts

As a principal investigator, co-investigator and member of research teams, he is involved in dozens of national and international projects with a total budget of more than 5 million euros. His main focus is on the application of advanced signal processing methods, sensors and measurements.

The results of his applied research in the field of sensors and signal processing are actively used by industrial partners such as Brose, Maxion Wheels, Porsche Engineering and the Fraunhofer Institute.

According to Radek Martinek, the key is the connection between academia and practice. Therefore, he has long been trying to make his team do real things that are relevant for companies and clinical practice. Recently, for example, the scientists have worked on developing a sensory pad for triggering MRIs as an alternative to existing ECG-based systems, on developing a home-based fetal ECG monitor, or have been involved in research that uses artificial intelligence to uncover the causes of stress in plants.
