Technologies for energy generation, transmission and storage are essential infrastructure for continued digitisation and the future of mobility and industrial production. The availability of cheap energy that can be efficiently transmitted, stored and converted from electricity to other useful forms is a key prerequisite for a sustainable economy. The energy sector has always been an integral part of the region’s economy given the extremely energy intensive industry here. That is why there is also a significant concentration of experts and know-how in topics that are important for finding ways to a new energy sector that does not burden the environment. An important part of the ecosystem is the CEET (Centre for Energy and Environmental Technologies of the VŠB) and the specialised Institute of Higher Education at the VŠB, which coordinates the national competence centre for energy. Within VŠB-TUO, new generations of specialists are also being trained, without whom the transition to new forms of energy would not be possible. The REFRESH project is an important impetus for the further development of this domain.
“We have an ideal ecosystem here – supporting the public administration, universities of VŠB-TUO, the University of Ostrava and companies operating in the energy sector. Thanks to the National Centre for Energy, we also have direct contact with all domestic universities and research centres involved in the energy sector, as well as a whole network of companies with great innovation potential. This is the ideal background to generate technical outputs and to influence the ministries concerned.”
