Computer scientist Václav Snášel holds a master’s degree in numerical mathematics from the Faculty of Science at Palacký University in Olomouc and a doctorate in algebra and number theory from Masaryk University in Brno. He received his habilitation and professorship at the VŠB-Technical University of Ostrava, where he has served as Rector since 2017.
In 2001-2009 he worked as a researcher at the Institute of Computer Science of the CAS and in 2010-2017 as the Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of VŠB-TUO.
His research draws on more than 30 years of experience in industry and academia. His professional interest focuses mainly on applications of artificial intelligence methods, neural networks, deep learning, optimization methods and information retrieval.
According to the Web of Science database, its h-index is 31 (Scopus: h-index 38, Google Scholar: 53). Professor Snášel has trained dozens of PhD students, many of whom are now working in science and applications. He actively links academia with industry – his team has collaborated on dozens of projects with companies and institutions.
Professor Snášelj’s scientific work has had a significant social impact in several areas, both through direct practical application and through the transfer of knowledge to industry and education. The application of artificial intelligence and data analysis is used in healthcare, for example in detecting patients at risk or optimising treatment based on the analysis of large volumes of data.
Professor Snášel has also been involved in research in the field of cyber security, designing intelligent algorithms for optimization of production processes, predictive maintenance and quality control in production. The results of his work contribute to improving efficiency, safety and innovation in companies and institutions. He is helping to digitalize and transform society.
