What is it?

The regional innovation ecosystem of the Moravian-Silesian Region consists of a network of cooperating actors involved in the development and support of innovation in the region. On the basis of the innovation strategy of the MSK, priorities, objectives and specific measures have been set to strengthen competitiveness, support economic growth and the overall development of the region.

The size and quality of the region’s innovation ecosystem has a direct impact on:

  • Growth and innovation in local firms,
  • motivating local residents to start new businesses,
  • investors’ willingness to implement activities with high added value in the region,
  • the ability of the local economy to create attractive new jobs.

First relocation app for expats

The relocation web application guides employers and foreigners through the relocation process in the Moravian-Silesian Region. It includes a signpost for students, employees and entrepreneurs. According to this signpost, the user will be shown content focused on the purpose of staying in the region, establishing a business in the region, finding a job or studying. Information on finding accommodation, school facilities for children or practical guides on what to do after arriving in the country are not neglected. The relocation app generates a digital check-list with all useful information.

The first quantum computer in the Czech Republic

The first quantum computer in the Czech Republic is located at IT4Innovations in Ostrava. The lab is dedicated to deepening theoretical understanding as well as developing practical applications and fostering partnerships between academia and industry.

The first ENVI accelerator programme

Since 2024, the Moravian-Silesian Innovation Centre has been organizing a successful acceleration program for startups in the field of clean technology and circular economy. Participants, who come not only from Central Europe, learn how to properly fine-tune their projects and bring them as close as possible to customers, partners or investors.

The first car in Central Europe

Between 1972 and 1977 the Kopřivnice team undertook the construction of a replica of their first car, the NW Präsident, according to surviving period documentation. Every visitor to the North Moravian town of Kopřivnice can see for themselves how successful the work was. The replica of the first real usable car with an internal combustion engine produced in Austria-Hungary and in Central Europe stands in a place of honour in the TATRA Technical Museum.

Ostrava leads in innovation growth

Did you know that Ostrava is currently experiencing the most significant ecosystem growth in the three largest Czech cities? And even by more than 24%! The information is based on the Startup Ecosystem Report 2025, published by StartupBlink, a global platform for startup research.
